coming soon: the new essex street market!

In the spring of 2019, Essex Street Market will move to a new home that lies at the cornerstone of the the Essex Crossing development project, a multi-use development project that will transform the Lower East Side with 1.9 million square feet of residential, commercial and community space over the next decade. This larger, more modern space invites a variety of new vendors and restaurants to join the Essex Street Market family.

In addition to 15 new food vendors and 2 full-service restaurants, the new Essex Street Market will be situated directly next to a beautiful, light-filled mezzanine space which will host a variety of community events, including nighttime talks and vendor tastings. There will also be a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen, fully equipped and designed for recreational cooking classes, as well as special event rentals.

new location, same mission

Though in a new space, Essex Street Market will remain a public market, allowing vendors to continue serving residents – old and new – with both affordable and specialty foods. All vendors in the current location will be making the move to Essex Crossing, presenting an exciting opportunity to be a part of New York City's largest public market.

Welcoming Our New Vendors

Essex Street Market is a diverse, bustling marketplace that provides unique opportunities for small businesses and an authentic shopping experience for its customers. The collective vendor community is rooted in the Market's history, which has been in continuous operation at its current location since 1940.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation has sought small businesses to lease space in the new Essex Street Market, amounting to 15 new food vendors and 2 new restaurants. The Market is situated directly above several major subway lines, offering vendors the chance to meet the local needs of 80,000 residents and 26,000 workers within a half mile of Essex Crossing.

Combined with the influx of tourists to the Lower East Side, an estimated 740,000 customers will pass through Essex Street Market annually.
